Day 3 has officially come to a close, and it was a success! We started off with a bang when we were put in an alliance with teams 3310 an 16. For the longest time, nobody even came close to scoring as many points as we did in that round. We were flying through our rounds! We had come to competition this year with a whole new attitude. And everyone could feel it. We weren’t here to compete. We were here to win.
We scouted out every single team, every single round. Taking in all kinds of data. Where, last year, we were focused on learning chants and being loud, this year we focused on knowing how every single team performed. We seeked out the teams we were to be in alliances with to discuss strategy. We constantly made improvements. Our pit was always busy with people doing something to improve the function of our robot. We were never not working. Unless we were asleep. But that was only a select few (including yours truly), and it was only cat naps so we could wake up energized to put forth maximum effort.
Then, the curse of Magnatech began to settle down, and nestle its head on our shoulder. Things began to go wrong when we would enter the field. The plexiglass on our arm broke under the stress of a defense. The plexiglass on the sides of the robot shattered. Then, our robot began to lose signal in the middle of matches for seemingly no reason. But thanks to the hard work of the pit, none of these things could stop us. We came out 4-4-0 for Qualifying Rounds, and are ranked 20th overall out of 49 teams here this week.
We again went to the mall for supper. Along the way, we jammed to some pretty sweet tunes coming from DJ Freshman’s nice little speaker with a big sound. Artists included, but were not limited to, Queen, Tiny Tim, and Gloria Estefan. This was also the case on the ride back to the hotel, which is where we are now. And as I type, we have a team STILL working, and don’t plan on stopping for a while. Our scouting team is compiling all the data we collected today and putting it into a program that will show us a wide variety of information. We will be able to tell a team’s strengths, weaknesses; we will be able to tell who would be best paired with us in an alliance for Finals.
As I stated before, we came to win this year. We will be bringing home the gold, West Monroe. See you soon.
